Good Bye 6th Grade

IMG_6006.JPG

The best part of 6th grade is the science program run by Mr. Graves. It is the most fun part of every week. Don’t you love field trips? Well all of the field trips are science based. By the end of the school year there won’t be a single fact about Steelehead you didn’t know.

The majority of 6th grade science is learning about Steelehead Salmon and the watershed they live in. Most of the projects are based off steelehead information, like the end of the year board game project. For this project you have to create a board game with your randomnly assigned group that uses educational facts about the steelehead. You and your group get to decide between using a format from a classic boardgame like Monopoly and Clue, or create your own board game. My group and I used the “Sorry” game format. I had lots of fun creating my project because my group worked together and listened to eachother.

The field trips during 6th grade were very fun like the Ship Trip. Although we had to get up super early, it was really fun. We got to study and catch plankton in a tiny net. We also did catch and release fish from our very own bay area. Another field trip we did was every week, on Wednesday, Mr. Graves chose four kids from each class and took them to the creek to take water samples. We tested: turbidity, dissolved oxygen, PH, and temperature.

6th grade science is so much fun and interesting. By the start of 6th grade, science was my least favorite subject. Now it is definately my favorite. My favorite part of science was all the projects because they were very fun and challenging. A side note to all the new 6th graders is you will definately have fun in 6th grade.
