Where does our tap water come from?

On 3/13/14 the sixth grade class at Mark West School went to the Collecter Wells in Forestville. We learned so much about where our water comes from. Did you know our water comes from the ground and it is clean? All the minerals in the ground clean the water as it sinks through the gravel and sand to reach the aquafer deep under ground so it is clean for us to drink. Also, the water agency tests the water at least 100 times before it goes out to our houses. My group also learned about these plants called Lemon Balm. Did you know Lemon Balm was used in Native American dishes? I also learned that the Native Americans were ammuned to poison oak and they used the oil mixed with soot to make tattoes. Our teacher from the SCWA, Danielle, took us to one of the new collecter wells, #6, and she showed us the two big motors that get the water from the aquafer under ground. Then the water is pumped to large holding tanks throughout the county before it enters pipes that go straight to our houses.
